The Monsters Ball
The Yule cat arrives on cautious paws
Watching from a distance,
Sweating a little in this foreign place
Adjusts his bow tie
A pair of Bunyip sweethearts linger on the curb
brush the creek from their hair
And take a last minute glance
at their car door reflection
The Yowie tells himself the suit is just fine
Yellow is the new black
And strides with purpose in his awkward circumstance
There by the door a Troll has lost her ticket
She searches frantically in her purse
And drops her keys
A Selkie takes her coat
Inside the room is swirling
With paisley purple sunflowers
The Yeti leans flat against wall
trying to blend in
His milk white suit lit up like a fair ground.
