Gen X Dreamers  2

Soon it was only ever black jeans

The same oversized jumper

Hair like a birds nest

Grey sky smile

Park benches were nightclubs

Kids from school riding bikes

Drunk

We  mocked the girls who still wore skirts

But our hearts weren't in it

Threw out a hat

And sang The Beatles on the street corner

Then ran laughing to the night ocean

Collecting the silver off the top

Boys had flatter hair

Grown ups didn't care

We covered our shame with intellect

And inside everything hurt
