Question Time on Judgement Day
( Sonnet 116)
When it came to it at last
She stood and readied herself,
To ask her questions
And so began
And the past? Will it yet remain?
A coat we can wear again and again
And the future rising of the sun?
Baby steps that were born to run
And bricks and dollars what are they?
A silly game we like to play
And what will happen to the soil
And what of new life seeded?
Renews itself like a serpent
cradled by worms
and speckled shells
of things no longer needed
Water will fall and flow and pool
and rise and fall again
And light will always be our guide
And darkness will not bend
And heat and cold and sound and taste?
All will cycle without haste
And then
And then when it comes to an end
Who will take me home again?
The air will shift in your moments' last
The earth will take you and hold you fast
The water wash you in your bed
And all thoughts within your head
Will stop
But Love will not.
For all the love you ever felt
Cannot be moved by death
It cannot be un-uttered
Does not require your breath
Love cannot be conjoured
Will not neglect its fate
Cannot be gotten rid of
Though the hour is late
Love cannot be co-erced,
Hurried,
Pushed through the back gate
Love stays,
Love stays
Love Stays
Love is not afraid to wait.
